It’s about money always. Kendrick got paid, Drake got paid. You got paid. If some security guards get shot over it who cares? You sound like you just found out about the dirty side of the entertainment business. You are part of that now.

More often than not with battle rap it's just a part of the sport and not personal. These are just high profile rappers that do have personal feelings towards each other so you see a lot of toxic behaviour. Consider the parallels to boxing, the point is not to promote going around beating people up, but to respect the dedication, art,skill and mutual respect two athletes have with each other in one to one combat. In the Kendrick vs Drake case there isn't that baseline respect of sportsmanship, so we see families called out and wild accusations. However just like contact sports, when something is personal, that's when people dig deep and their best work is shown and great stories are told, it's a real double edged sword. It's up to you whether you feel comfortable continuing to cover content like this . Personally as someone who does boxing I find real beauty in showcasing these "ugly sides" of humans but to each their own.

Finally, it would be more appropriate, imo, to acknowledge that she was preyed on by two older men in entertainment when she was a blossoming teenage ingenue in music. Then puppylove. Then another entertainer who used her for her songwriting abilities to sell a song to Rhianna. Then a man whom she latched onto as her rescuer during the canceling from the whole world instigated by west kardashian. She spent six years in hiding in and out of London (and during Covid almost 3 years). He obviously wanted her connections and wealth etc. and a quiet life. He was depressed. She fell deeply in love, tried everything, it fell apart. The last was a fortnight of trying to rekindle a spark from long ago in a rebound move. How is all that the “common denominator “!? As a Master of MFT student I really appreciate see you address ethical concerns like these and detailing the multiple angles that impact your approach. I’m also an AVID hip-hop fan. While battle rapping and disses has been a part of the culture since the beginning and battles do get personal and low at times, not many go as low as this battle went, nor are the as widely covered, with a few notable exceptions (like Death Row vs Bad Boy Records, and that did not end well). As therapists we are tasked with being non judgmental, empathetic, and validating, while maintaining as congruent a self as possible. This is a fine line to balance on. We also have to be cultured and worldly, curious to understand things we aren’t familiar about and that even make us uncomfortable. These recent beefs have not been about rap and who is the better MC. These are people who genuinely do not like each other and are choosing to express themselves quite toxically, despite the incredible creativity. What we can’t do is turn a blind eye to what is permeating the social sphere just because it’s uncomfortable. We have to be able to talk about it and peel the lessons that can be learned from it. Just like with many other forms of entertainment. There’s more I can say but at this point I might as well make a video about it. My final verdict, continue covering the disses but give yourself a moment in your videos to reflect on what can be peeled away.

Have you ever thought of doing in-depth breakdowns of the mental states that lead the rapper on a certain diss track to saying what they say from a mental health standpoint?

So I have an idea, and maybe it'll help with your perspective on rap battling? So here's some insight, battling is as old as hip hop itself, it started off more innocent, basically turning jokes into rhymes and clowning your opponent. Over the years it just got more brutal to the point where it's like embarrass your opponent by any means possible, family, kids, mental issues, handicaps, nothings off limits. Which is the state we're in now, information wins the battle era. Which is also the same thing they do in actual rap battles currently. The rappers have to do their homework on their opponents and come up with about 10 to 15 minutes of material to use against them in a freestyle acapella battle, no beat, just straight bars. Maybe you can react to a few of the most popular battles? These types of battles, the rappers are even more mean to each other, in Each other's faces and you think they might start punching eachother but after it's all said and done, they're usually cool with eachother again and able to hug it out despite everything that was said.

As a fan who’s only been a fan for almost a year who found you by the $b I feel like you should still react to the beef however. If you do feel uncomfortable reacting to it you should maybe not react to it. BUT I think you should make a second channel where you kinda turn off the therapist mindset and react to the disstracks. And you could also have other vids on that channel as well that’s not looking at the mental health side of things.

Tom, I obviously don't know you on a deep personal level, but I do feel like I have gotten to know you a little bit through watching your videos. I can tell that you really care about not sending the wrong message when it comes to reactions like these. I would guess that most of the people who are upset or don't think you should react to songs like these, just haven't watched enough of your reactions to really know you and your intentions.

The line he said about “fake tea” is a no brainer. Battle rappers say stuff like that all the time cause the person you’re going against or about to face, will obviously say some something dirty about u or at the very least try to dig something up. I think if drake “really planted the mole” then right after Kendrick dropped meet the grahams, instead of posting a pic in IG, he would’ve had some sort of proof that he planted a mole or knew of a mole and would have made video/post about that right after. So he can look like the mastermind and make Kendrick look stupid, that would’ve won him the battle. Instead he dug a deeper hole for himself and lost, who plants a mole that helps them lose?

React to what you want even if you don’t like the feeling, if you want to react to disstracks for exempel you should, if people reguest it then there is a demand for it. I think you should react to disstracks for exampel beacuse that can have some mental heath in it. But that is what I think.

I love rap beef and your outside opinion on it... That said, it is your channel...do beef and battles fit within what YOU aim to do with your channel... Nobody else runs it but you, and it seems you have a mission with the channel. I'm down either way, but I don't run the channel. I'd say take your job out of it and reassess what this Channel is.
